Update Date: 09-10-2017
Author: Cafeew

This temple was built by Tai family in 1787.
According to local folklore, once upon a time, Tai family found a god statue near the seashore.
They believed that this god statue is sacred, so they built a shrine for it.
As time passed by, the shrine became more and more popular.
In order to accommodate more people, Tai family thus decided to transform it into a temple.

This temple is dedicated to Tin Hau.
In Hong Kong, there are over 100 Tin Hau Temples.
This temple is one of them.

According to the legend, Tin Hau is the name of the Goddess of the Sea.
She was born in the Song Dynasty and she could forecast weather from a young age.
This gift saved the lives of many seafarers and she became revered as a god by fishermen.

Worshippers, many of them are fisher folk or descendants of fishing communities, celebrate Tin Hau Festival in every spring time.
They flock to the temples to worship and sought her protection.

Along the coast of southern China, there are numerous Tin Hau Temples.
In fact, this temple was originally situated on a waterfront area too.
Its present location is actually the consequence of land reclamation for urban development in the past.

This temple is located at the Tin Hau Temple Road in Causeway Bay.
To reach this place, leave the Tin Hau MTR Station via Exit B.
Then, walk along Tin Hau Temple Road for about 2 minutes.
